Design Inspo Alert: RH Seattle Unveiled in University Village

The new RH Seattle, The Gallery at University Village is here and your design education is about to begin. RH, if you’re unfamiliar, is the sleek new moniker for Restoration Hardware, the luxury home design retailer. But typical retail it is not.

The massive four-story building felt campus-like as my private tour shuffled and paused from one room to the next. Our interior designer turned tour guide excitedly detailed the styled nooks of the gallery, showing off real-time capsules of pristine design. For instance, she noted the balance of each room, and how it’s a good practice to design from the foundation of a space. Start with textiles and rugs and build up from there. Maybe you knew that, but design class is still in session for me.

In fact, I’m going to publish this post, and then pin these photos to my home decor Pinterest board to study thoroughly. And then I’ll visit again soon to take in the art on the walls, delicious bling of the epic chandelier staircase, and collection of legendary coffee table books.

RH Seattle, The Gallery at University Village is an innovative new retail experience that blurs the lines between residential and retail, indoors and outdoors, physical and digital. Commanding four levels and more than 60,000 total interior and exterior square feet, the next-generation design gallery features artistic installations of home furnishings in a gallery setting, an entire floor dedicated to RH Modern with an integrated RH Contemporary Art Gallery, and an interactive Design Atelier, a professional workspace that allows customers, designers and architects to conceptualize and customize a home.

RH Seattle marks RH Chairman & CEO Gary Friedman’s ongoing collaboration with James Gillam of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger, a firm recognized as one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 architect and design firms in the world. Conceptualized as a grand-scale, classical contemporary structure filled with fresh air and natural light, architectural and design details include a lush garden terrace and decomposed granite courtyards, a grand double floating staircase with a massive skylight and spectacular installation of 22 Helix crystal chandeliers suspended 60 feet overhead – all culminating in a Rooftop Park & Conservatory with mature white crepe myrtle trees and a display of the latest RH Outdoor collections.

Other highlights include a Ben Soleimani Rug Showroom as well as specialized galleries for window treatments, bed and bath linens, and bath hardware.
